Red Light. Green light. Cowabunga!

Guys, we are VERY close to green-lighting our film and starting our production phase. VERY CLOSE. I can see, taste, hear, and smell Family Party (or maybe that’s my toast burning?). Okay, here’s the deal. We can start filming if everyone who originally pledged on Kickstarter just took his or her donations to Fractured Atlas. If this happens, we’d be able to green light our project!

Are you serious? Yes, I’m serious.

Before I tell you how, let me first recap what has happened in the adventure in bringing Family Party to life since we started in February 2013:

  1. We launched our Kickstarter campaign in February which has been hailed as the “most visibly viral unfunded film of 2013” – we received $40,000 in pledges, but since we did not hit our goal of $95,000 and Kickstarter is all-or-nothing, everything went to zero after the 30-day campaign run and we did not keep any of the funds.
  2. Plan B was initiated – we’ve simply been telling all of our backers to transfer their donations from Kickstarter to our non-profit partner, Fractured Atlas to receive a tax deduction, and now, rewards too! From your consistent support, we have been able to re-capture a significant amount of the initial pledges and re-raise $21,702! This phase has been slower than expected, but for those who have supported again, you are awesome!
  3. Plan C was initiated – we are also offering equity for people interested in investing. If you want a piece of the pie, email us and we can share our presentation which has been catching some eyeballs and attention.
  4. Because of the campaign’s awareness reach, our production network has woken up. We have been getting production resources donated to our crew, which has dropped our budget considerably. For example, we now have a full two-camera package at our disposal to use for the duration of the shoot for free. CRAZY. The response from artists in our industry here in the Bay Area in seeing the value of my film and story has been amazing. I’m ever grateful.

We can start our production phase once we hit $45,000. We were able to raise $40,000 on Kickstarter so there is no reason why we can’t re-hit this goal with your help again, right? Here is a quick breakdown of how we can do it for this amount and three line items we need to spend on:

  • Crew – our creative team consists of industry professionals with years of feature film and commercial background. This team, headed by Cinematographer Richie Yau, will make your eyes explode with visual creativity. This is not your student production or group of friends getting together and picking up a camera for the first time. There is a reason Richie’s films have been at Sundance. We need to make sure these guys have all the tools to paint this masterpiece.
  • Production Resources – lighting, grip, lenses, and production design all have dollar signs attached.
  • Production Schedule – All of the above, for a 15-day shoot. It adds up.
  • Side Note: Our Producer Felix is a budget ninja and has put together such a smart and economical workflow that his spreadsheets belong in the Louvre. Framed. Next to the Mona Lisa.

Guys, my birthday is coming up April 2nd. It would make my day, year, decade, and existence if you took the time to re-pledge on Fractured Atlas before this date so I can share this story with you. And if you didn’t donate on Kickstarter previously, here is your chance to jump on board with an amazing project. Check out this list on who’s got a front seat to the party already and supported the film. And I know I’ve been on your case, but honestly, if you know my voice then you know this film comes from the deepest part of my heart and is going to break some barriers.

Seriously though, Fractured Atlas is easier than Lindsay Lohan trying to avoid a court appearance:

  • You don’t need to sign up for Amazon Payments.
  • You can simply use your credit card.
  • It takes 30 seconds. I know because I’ve watched a lot of people donate with my own eyes.
  • We are now offering rewards for certain pledge levels, not just a tax-deductible donation as pretty cool incentives.
  • CLICK HERE to support. If you’ve come this far in reading this article, there is no reason you can’t take 30 seconds to take the next step.

Remember, if you pledged on Kickstarter, I just need your re-pledges again on Fractured Atlas to make this film a reality. We can do this. COWABUNGA!
